Love is on the Radio

Whether you're swimming in champagne, buried in red roses, or happily watching Made in Chelsea alone, we all like a schmaltzy tune once in a while. So whether you've been shot with Cupid's arrow or not this Valentine's Day, here's a playlist of my favourite romantic songs.

1. Tupelo Honey - Van Morrison
I'm with Ross Geller on this one - this is my all-time favourite love song. If I ever marry, I want this as my wedding song. It's quite long, though, and there's only so much awkward dancing this blogger can take. Only Van could make 'she's alright, she's alright, she's alright' sound so romantic.

2. Here, There and Everywhere - The Beatles
Something would be the more obvious choice, and while that is one of my favourite songs ever, I just adore this one. Maybe it's because it was Phoebe Buffay's wedding song. It's more tender and soppy than the fab four usually got, and it perfectly captures that feeling of not wanting to spend a single second without your significant other. Also, Paul's vocals are perfect.

3. You Make Me Feel So Young - Frank Sinatra
Who can listen to this and not want to find someone who makes you a happy in-di-vid-u-al?

5. More Than Anyone - Gavin Degraw
Naley's wedding song! Not gonna lie, I spent about five years listening to nothing but music from One Tree Hill.

4. Stand By Me - Ben E. King
I love the sentiment of flat out saying to someone 'stand by me'. Be with me, even 'when the night has come... the land is dark'. Not to mention it brings back memories of one of my favourite films, the 1986 movie of the same name.

6. So Bad - Paul McCartney
His discography is chocked full of excellent love songs - My Love? No More Lonely Nights? Maybe I'm Amazed? - but since it's Valentine's Day, I decided to go for the cheesiest of them all. So eighties, it hurts.

7. Waiting on an Angel - Ben Harper
You know when you wake up early on a sunny day, feeling content and your sweetheart is at your side? And you don't want to be anywhere in that moment but that bed with that girl/guy? This sweet song was made for those mornings.

8. These Are The Days - Van Morrison
A lesser known Morrison tune, this plays out over the happy ending of Nine Months. Not necessarily a love song, but it'd make the perfect first dance song, right? The poetic lyrics about living in the moment and the beauty of now are incredibly romantic are guaranteed to make you want to slow dance with your live by the fireside.

9. Turqouise - Donovan
I've always loved this song, even if the harmonica goes right through me! This song, written about folk legend Joan Baez, is full of lovely images... 'the leaves dance and play after you/ take my hand and hold it, as you would a flower'. I love listening to it, as it makes me feel like I'm flying!

10. To Build a Home - The Cinematic Orchestra
'Cos you have to, really, don't you?
